MAT Score is acceptable even to certain other Institutes for considering admission of candidates for Post Graduate Degree/Diploma programs, besides the above Institutes, subject to specific cut-off marks and other admission parameters.
Commonly Asked Questions
Q. How many management institutes participate in MAT? Do they keep on changing or remain the same? Is the admission criterion the same for each institute? Are they recognized by AICTE? Do they have hostel facilities? What about the total fee?
A. The number of participating management institutes may vary from test to test. The admission criteria for every institute are different. All institutes participating in MAT are either AICTE approved or affiliated to some university. For further information, contact the MIs/universities of your choice.
The list of various management institutes /universities is available in MAT Bulletin along with the admission notifications. It may be worthwhile to go through the brochure of the institutes for detailed information.
For the December MAT 2010, 33 MBA institutes across India will be accepting the scores. Some of the notable MBA institutes are IILM Academy of Higher Learning, Jaipur; Institute of Rural Management, Jaipur and Jodhpur; Xavier Institute of Development Action & Studies, Jabalpur, to name a few.
Q. What is the validity of the MAT score?
A. MAT scores are valid for that particular session for most institutes, but for AIMA-CME’s PGDM & PGDITM programs, the score is valid for one year. For more detail, please visit www.aima-ind.org.
Q. What is the last date of submitting filled in MAT OMR form?
A. Last date for submission is mentioned in the MAT bulletin. The last date also appears in the notification released by AIMA in various national and regional newspapers.
Q. Do applicants have to buy the prospectus of the MI’s opted by him or her?
A. Yes, it is recommended that the student buy the prospectus of the institutes for which they wish to apply.
Q. Is MAT held all over the country? What about a person living abroad? Can he/she apply for it?
A. MAT is conducted across all major cities in the country and in leading cities abroad. For further clarification, see MAT bulletin or contact our information center.
Q. Do we get a separate Admit Card for appearing in MAT?
A. The candidate has to download his/her admit card from aima website at least seven days before the test date with the registration form number. No separate admit card is mailed to the candidate.
Q. Is there any age eligibility for the test? Do we need to have any job experience in order to appear in MAT?
A. No. There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.
Q. Is appearance in MAT necessary for getting admission into PGDM/MBA program?
A. Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM /equivalent programs offered by AIMA or other institutes that participate in it.
XAT
XAT is an annual entrance exam conducted by XLRI School of Business and Human Resources for admission to Post Graduate Management Programs of XLRI, Jamshedpur and 60 other management institutes. Therefore, every year a large number of management aspirants apply for XAT to get admission in XLRI or other good institutes where XAT is applicable.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates with a degree under 10+2+3 system recognized by a university or a deemed university is the eligibility criteria. Less than 50% in graduation are also eligible to apply for XAT.
- Students completing their final year examination by June next year are also eligible to apply.
Testing Areas
The question paper will have the following sections:
Quantitative Ability Analytical reasoning Analytical reasoning Computer awareness The XAT is a two-hour duration paper, with number of questions being 200. The paper divided into 4 sections with sectional timings being enforced. Every right answer carries 1 mark & every incorrect answer carries -1/3 mark
Exam Format
XAT exam is of 140 minutes and consists of 200 objective type questions and an essay of 250-300 words. Objective questions are asked from the following sections:
The four sections are:
- Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation - Functions, Quadratics, Number Systems, Probability, Geometry, Mensuration, Permutation & Combination etc
- Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability - Data Arrangement with 2/3 parameters, Reading comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Fill in the Blanks and Parajumbles
- Analytical Ability and Decision Making
- Essay - Essay will not be considered for Percentile calculation but will be have subjective weight age by individual institutes. Topics that can be expected for essays are social, economic or simply interpretational one (e.g Ships are safe in the harbor but they are not meant to be there)
All these sections are allotted a time of 40 minutes each. For every correct answer a candidates gets 1 mark and 1/3 marks is deducted for an incorrect answer. In the remaining 20 minutes candidates are supposed to write an essay of 250-300 words on a given topic.

TANCET
Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) is an entrance examination conducted every year by Anna University on behalf of Tamil Nadu Government for admission in the professional post-graduate programmes in various Government/Private universities/institutes in Tamil Nadu which include Anna University-Chennai, Anna University-Coimbatore, Anna University-Trichy, Anna University-Tirunelveli, Government and Government aided Institutes and Government Quota seats in private Institutes. TANCET is for admission in M.Tech/M.E./MBA/MCA/M.Arch/M.Plan programmes.
TANCET is the most popular examination for aspirants in Tamil Nadu who want to pursue Post Graduation in professional courses in Tamil Nadu. Every year a very large number of candidates in Tamil Nadu appear for TANCET for admission in best colleges and courses in Tamil Nadu. Even candidates from outside Tamil Nadu can appear for TANCET but their admission depends on the rules of particular university/institute.
Eligibility Criteria

The Entrance Exams will be of 2 hours duration consisting of multiple choice questions. MBA and MCA Entrance exam will have 100 questions each while ME/MTech/M.Arch/M.Plan entrance will have separate compulsory and specialization sections. Candidates will have to choose the specialization section depending on their qualifying degree. There will be negative marking in all the exams for incorrect answers

How to Apply
Application Form is common for all the three entrance tests. Candidates have to submit only one application. The candidates have to pay a fee of Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC / ST Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu on production of a copy of Permanent Community Certificate) as entrance test fee for any one of the Programs either (1) M.B.A. or (2) M.C.A. or (3) M.E./M.Tech./M.Arch./ M.Plan.
If a candidate desires to appear for more than one program, for every additional program, he / she has to pay Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) along with the filled-in application.
